ConcertsThe Sinfonia of Birmingham gives four or five concerts every year. These typically include a choral concert with the Chandos Choir in Solihull at the start of the season. This is followed by two concerts at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham ending with a summer concert in one of the localities around Birmingham such as Wombourne or Bromsgrove. This is always a delightful concert and the orchestra finishes the season with a dinner in one of the local restaurants after the concert. Some seasons have also included a concert for a music society such as Hinckley or Evesham. RehearsalsRehearsals are usually held in the two weeks leading up to the concert at the Cambridge Road Methodist Church in Cambridge Road, Kings Heath. There are a total of four rehearsals prior to the day of the concert, the second of which is a strings-only rehearsal. Rehearsal times are 7 pm - 10 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. When it is not possible to hold rehearsals on these days, other rehearsal venues used are the Moseley Friends Institute and Centre 13 on School Road, Moseley. There is also a 3 hour rehearsal on the day of the concert starting at 2.30 pm in time for the concert at 7.30 pm. Joining the OrchestraMost people join the orchestra through the recommendation of players in the orchestra. There is no formal audition. Although we have a core group of regular players, we are always on the lookout for new members, especially string players. There is a strong social atmosphere in the orchestra, enhanced even further by the recent tour to the Rhineland in Germany. New members are always made to feel very welcome by the regular members of the orchestra. The orchestra does not charge any subscription at present, however, we do expect everyone to bring along friends and relatives to concerts where possible to help with the funding of the orchestra.
